Welcome to Second Grade! Happy New Year (school year) Let's make 2021-2022 the best year ever! I am so happy to be your teacher, and I know we will have a great year. Second Grade is filled with interesting and challenging material that you will enjoy.
Some of you may already know me through your siblings or friends. I was born in Kentucky, and have two older brothers. Even as a young child, I wanted to be a teacher like my mother. She taught second grade! I would play school and line up my stuffed animals on the bed to "teach" them.
I graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelors of Science in Education and I secured my Masters Degree at Vanderbilt University. I recently renewed National Board certification that I have held since 2010.
My husband Greg and I love all animals, especially dogs. The big dog above is a Newfoundland named Stonewall. I had him for over ten years and he passed away but is still in my heart. I took care of my brother's dog this summer. She is a French Mastiff and followed me all over the farm. She is just a puppy but will be huge when she grows up! Her name is Mellie and she really loved meeting the cows. I will share some funny stories with you about her when we are in class together.
I have taught at Selwyn for fifteen years! I was a third grade teacher for eight years, and this is my eighth year in second grade. We will work hard this year to get you ready to be fabulous third graders.
My love of Art keeps me busy with different hobbies. Drawing and painting are a few, and I love to cook, sew, and decorate. I also enjoy traveling, reading, and browsing for antiques! I also have my own art and furniture booth at Sleepy Poet Antiques.
I spend each summer at our family farm in Tennessee. My sweet parents have passed away but I always feel close to them there.
At the farm we have two pet cows. Peggy Sue and Linda Sue have their own barn and are spoiled rotten. They are gentle and love to be brushed and petted. We ring a dinner bell for them to come eat. See, I told you they were spoiled!
I am looking forward to a wonderful second grade year with all of you!
